“A small little thing called evidence.”
No, you’re claiming that mutation combined with natural selection can cause species to change over time, but that at some point that change must stop before they become too different from their ancestors. If you think that the mechanisms of mutation and natural selection exist, you need to explain why they can operate over short periods of time (whatever that means) but must stop at some point so that species don’t change too much.
You also haven’t provided a good definition of “kind.” Are wolves and dogs the same kind? Are all breeds of dogs the same kind? Are house cats the same kind as lions? Are bacteria that live in extreme conditions (say, the ones that live in tar pits) a different kind than the ones that live under more standard conditions? If so, what makes them the same kind? The fact that we happen to call them both bacteria? A four year old’s intuition isn’t sufficient. Your four year old doesn’t understand quantum mechanics, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Your four year old most likely doesn’t understand that a short, fat glass can hold the same amount of liquid as a tall, thin glass. (Or, if he/she does, then there was a time when that was not the case.) The fact that our understanding differs from his/hers doesn’t mean the rest of us are idiots for not believing the same things as your child.
