Another unfortunate falls to the lure of the large corporations advertising. Net neutrality, as understood by those who push it as a laudable goal say little or nothing about making the net providers give the same speed of download to everyone. Obviously, the difference in the technologies available to the small user have a much slower up- or download time than those who can afford the higher-end equipment. Net neutrality has to do with keeping the big boys’ noses firmly OUT of the content and availability of the smaller users. Do you REALLY think that Google and Yahoo, having applied the censorship standards demanded by the Chinese government, would just NOT apply those or similar standards if they can gain thereby? The net becomes crippled when the second- or third-tier providers decided to stop allowing traffic to pass through their systems. What happens if the first-tiers kids decide that it is THEIR ball and decide to take it and go home? This is not a “free access and equal bandwidth” movement, it’s a “Keep your fingers off MY stuff, ya thief!” movement. Any arguement otherwise should have the honesty to carry the logos of those companies that are supporting it.
