Article makes a good point about the end result of an education being more important than the piece of paper stating that end result. I think another way of helping to eliminate the “waste of time” is encourage students to wait until they psychologically ready to enter an institution of learning and can comprehend what they can potentially get out their four years other than a certification of attendance.

Of course all sorts of people go to college for all sorts of reasons and some of those reasons have nothing to do with higher education so in essence they get what they paid for. I see too many come out thinking that their BA is golden ticket only to find out they are ill equipped for the next phase in their life.

The learning institutions formed in the early 1900’s are not evovling to cater to the new type of student that enters it doors. A change in thinking like the author presents could mean less college degrees but more importantly could result in more meaningful college degrees.
