Jason Kidd Calls Out NBA For Spain Photos Double Standard

sports.yahoo.com — “We would ’ve been already thrown out of the Olympics,” Kidd told Yahoo! Sports. “At least, we wouldn’t have been able to come back to the U.S. …There would be suspensions.” They’ll dock you $50,000 for ripping an incompetent official, but you can get a pass on an orchestrated racial slur? Gasol is kidding himself to say that he was pushed into it.

Please stop talking about “Europe” with regards to this issue. Europe is made up of tens of countries with completely different cultures and people. Spain should be looked down on here, not the whole of Europe. Norway and Scotland didn’t have anything to do with this, don’t lump them and everyone else into the same category.

o Powerfan5000, 10 hr 6 min ago, -0/+5Europe is not being looked down on. No one is. That’s the problem. If this were the American Team then the NBA would be levying heavy fines and suspensions, but they are getting away with a blatantly racist photo because they are European. No one is blaming the whole continent. Kidd just wants those players that are in the NBA to be held accountable like there American counterparts would be, and he’s right.
+ yessuz, 9 hr 58 min ago, -7/+1that’s why European basketball is way better than american..
at least our fans come to watch the game, not to eat somee hamburgers
o shutaro, 9 hr 48 min ago, -0/+1Forget Norway!
o mooseontheloose, 9 hr 46 min ago, -0/+1Spain is made up of millions and millions of people, this is a group of athletes.
+ Powerfan5000, 9 hr 16 min ago, -0/+1Again, no one is blaming Spain. He just thinks that the NBA players on the Spanish national team need to be held accountable like the American NBA players would be if it were them.

This is a collective act by a group of individuals. It was neither funny or “inspirational” and I totally agree that the NBA’s American black players would have been crucified over this should they have been the culprits. I wonder what the fuck Yao had to say about it. Translator please!

Jason Kidd has just realized that the United States is hyper-sensitive to a fault.

The NBA , if not the IOC itself, should punish any of its players that are on Spain’s team for this. Other athletes should find their balls like Kidd and start calling out both the NBA and IOC. This kind of crap is unacceptable, especially in the host country, and it flies in the face of the Olympic’s own charter!

Fundamental Principles of Olympism
1. Olympism is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining in a balanced whole the qualities of
body, will and mind. Blending sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a
way of life based on the joy of effort, the educational value of good example and respect for
universal fundamental ethical principles.

2. The goal of Olympism is to place sport at the service of the harmonious development of man,
with a view to promoting a peaceful society concerned with the preservation of human dignity.

If they are American players on the Spain team they should be fined and suspended. But besides them their is nothing we can do about another countries athletes behavior.

o Powerfan5000, 9 hr 14 min ago, -0/+3American players can’t play on Spain’s team because they’re not Spanish. I think you mean NBA players like Pau Gasol should be fined and suspended.
o Hetman, 8 hr 43 min ago, -0/+1You are right. That is what I mean.

Kidd has a point. If Team USA did that it’d be the top story of the year.

Jason Kidd is exactly right here. If Spain is going to whimp out and not disapline its players then so be it, they look weak and pathetic. The NBA has the right to disapline any of its players no matter what country they represent because they also represent the NBA. When this story is spoken about and the NBA players are mentioned they do so by mentioning them as NBA players as well as players on the NBA. I have already lost a lot of respect for the NBA in the past several years but here is a great opportunity for them. They can gain a lot of respect back by punishing these players for their blatant display of racism or continue to look pathetic if they sit back and do nothing. That would not have happened if it was the USA team that did this so why should it be different because it is the Spanish team. And just because they say they did not mean it to be racist does not mean that it was not racist. Any idiot can see this is racism in its purest form.

o orlando69, 7 hr 7 min ago, -0/+1and I know that discipline is spelled wrong but for some reason when I changed it, it was not corrected and now I have timed out so I can not change it now.

Kidd, like many of you it seems, just do not understand Spanish culture and are speaking out of ignorance. Spain has one of the most tolerant societies in the world where the lack of animosity among different ethnic groups allows them to lightheartedly joke around and nobody thinks twice about it. Instead of getting worked up about double standards they just live their lives. Besides, nobody insulted him, it just sounds like he is angry he can’t go around insulting others because that is the double standard he is held too. He never was the brightest one.
