Even as a Sharks fan I must say the Wings’ superlatives are limitless. Best team in years. They just won’t let go of the puck and do everything humanly possible to get it when the other guys have it. They move it with precision and grace. Other teams can only dump and chase. Because of their canny defense, that rarely works against the Wings as we Sharks fan saw too often. They can fire shots from the blue line with an accuracy other teams envy. They usually don’t have to because they constrict the other team to their net with crisp, accurate passes, creating space. They set up fluidly. They screen the goalie and find the opening to the net with uncanny aplomb. Add deep, solid goaltending and you have a formula for invincibility.

To make a long story short, they are in a class by themselves. They will retain their core at least one more year, and they will only get better when Mats Sundin inevitably bolts for them from the Leafs. A repeat Cup wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
