First, Lennon was killed on December 8, 1980

First, Lennon was killed on December 8, 1980. That was 27 years ago, considering the fact that we’re only in August.
Second, I don’t think the people that bury this article are trying to change history (which is what you make this sound like). I mean, I really don’t think Digg is the forum one would choose to change (or attempt to change) history.
For me at least it’s about remembering the legacy of John Lennon and of forgetting about Chapman. Burying this article in order to lower Chapman’s notoriety assumes him as our motive for our actions when indeed we are more concerned with remembering Lennon as he lived his life and the message he tried to convey to the world (a message which has sadly fallen on the deaf ears of the leaders of this world). I’m not trying to paint a rosy picture about all of us holding hands and singing songs in a universal language, but things could be a lot better than they are today.
I hope you understand where some of us (at least myself) are coming from. Peace.
