Here’s a good one I’ve had. A client called saying he was having trouble with a custom login prompt we built for an application his company runs. All he started with was saying that he couldn’t log in. After going through all the standard questions to try to figure out what the real problem was (did you spell your password right? Is the caps lock on?) it turned out the real issue was that he knew how to type his username and password, but didn’t know he had to click the OK button to actually acknowledge the prompt.
Seriously, he got as far as typing his name and password and was sitting at a screen that said ‘OK’ or ‘Cancel’ and then called us because he didn’t know what to do next. Apparently it should have just logged him in as soon as he finished typing the password.
