I keep on finding this weird every time I read it on digg. Here in Australia I occasionally catch glimpses into the American political race when theres snippets on the international news. The 2 times that this little pissing contest over offshore drilling Vs. Car tune ups was on the news both times the figures which I saw were:
Off shore drilling would provide around 1.1-1.2million barrels of oil Vs. Car tune ups and Tire pressure reducing demand by around 800,000 barrels. Why is it that on my unbiased TV station (when I say unbiased its because its the government funded channel) I see the figure of 1200k barrels which could be supplied but here on Digg I keep on seeing only 200k?
Also; Everyone who is jumping on the Obama idea of Car efficiency is talking best term scenarios. What are the odds of EVERY American who drives a car actually going out and getting the engined tuned up and the tires re inflated? Even if there was a massive push with a shit load of advertising and maybe even a government subsidy, I still don’t think even 10% of cars would end up turning greener, let alone the actual resources to achieve such a thing.
The article claims that this little battle isn’t about politics. But it is, it’s just a stupid pissing contest. In the REAL world Offshore oil drilling will provide a bigger relief then greening up cars. It might not environmentally be the best course of action but be real, 9 out of 10 people would take a drop at the bowser over forking out their own money to tune up their cars.
Thats just my 2 cents.
