I was in the military for five years and I met many people who were there because of court orders, who did not want to be there. When you go through boot camp the purpose is to break you down and build you back up, by the time you finish boot camp, the majority of the people who didn’t want to be there have changed their mind and decided that they were there because they found a new life or chance in serving their country. I truly believe that if there was mandatory military service the same would happen for those who are conscripted to join.
