The movie I will argue until the end of time as overrated is “Gladiator”. I watched that movie thinking “what is this? Scriptwriting 101?”, only to find out later much of the movie script was written on the day of filming. I saw Gladiator a few days before the Travolta fiasco that was “Battlefield Earth” and thought even THAT was better than Gladiator.
