I’m really confused by Phelps’ post-swim comments about what Cavic supposedly said to him… watching the video again, in the interview with the NBC reporter this is what he says, verbatim:

Phelps: “Well one thing that really fired me up beforehand…. uh… you know Michael said, you know, it’d be… uh.. it’d be good for swimming and good for me if he won… Cavic…. and uh… that fired me up more than anything… my mom told me that…um… I just said you know I’m just gonna go for it… ”

At first I thought Phelps was saying that Cavic told him that it’d be good for the sport if Phelps won. But the article seems to imply that Cavic was trash talking… Can’t really figure it out by the above quote.
