In another 50? years we will look back at the amount of CO2 we put into the athmosphere and wonder why so many people were fooled by the FUD of Exxon and free-marketeers in denying human-caused climate change. Big Oil is doing what Big Tobacco did before.
Comparable denialist arguments: “People in Europe got lung cancer before tobacco was introduced into Europe, therefore tobacco does not cause cancer. My granma smoked 60 cigarettes a day since she was 10 and she is 95 and still OK. My lung cancer must have cleared up because I didn’t cough today. But the nice tobacco-funded doctor said that smoking was harmless. Sen Inhofe and the Heartlands don’t think smoking is harmful. Liberals believe in tobacco restriction - I am a Conservative. I don’t trust the surgeon general - he’s paid by the govmint. The World Health Organization is a part of the UN - New World Order. Consensus amongst doctors proves nothing, there are X no of doctors who don’t believe the tobacco alarmism. What do doctors know anyway - they used to use leaches a while ago. It just a plot by the goverment to increase taxes on tobacco by claiming it is harmful. My doctor is lying, he just wants to charge me for extra health checks. I’m American, no-one tells me what to do. It’s bad for the economy - who will advertise/sponsor events. I don’t want it to be true - I enjoy smoking. I will get my facts from those who agree with me rather than those who know most about the subject.”
