@davidlow: FireWire supplies more amps to the device, but that sometimes makes it less useful - for example, on a laptop where you would want less power consumption so your battery lasts longer.
I’m not saying FireWire is bad or useless or anything, I’m just saying that it’s got an uphill battle to fight against USB in terms of popularity. FireWire is very useful when you use external storage because you can daisy-chain your devices without slowdown - but then again, who has enough external drives or few enough USB ports to need that? Plus, that only works if the device in question has another port built-in, and is plugged in (so that the next device has enough power). Useful, yes, but not useful enough that I feel I need to buy it - especially when all my devices use USB, and only my external HD can make use of it.
