IT WORKS! I JUST DID IT. I discovered this method once on my own when switching from windows xp SP2 to SP3. It was a lot easier–I just had to change drive letters.
Since then, I’ve long forgotten how to do it and being a new mac user didn’t help either. The only reason I do this is to retain my play counts–this method works great for that purpose! (the note about the method not retaining play counts is wrong
this method has a very small learning curve. if you don’t know anything about file paths, that’s okay–you’ll learn a lot from this process.
