Jedimonkey even shot at a slight angle the bullet would not keep it’s lateral velocity. Skydivers jumping from planes are going around 100mph horizontal when they jump. This horizontal velocity slowly changes into vertical. They can travel around 1/4 mile horizontally (not talking about wingsuits etc) but by the time they pull their parachute they are not traveling lateral very fast at all but vertical. Bullets have much less air resistance than skydivers but the same thing applies. If shot upwards even if not straight up it will lose most of it’s lateral velocity.
You would have to shoot the bullet at a very low angle in which case it would be about the same as just shooting someone normally. Like you said though this is all moot because the chance of it hitting someone is ridiculously low.
Lazyfisherman, Anecdotal evidence that people have died does not prove anything. There is anecdotal evidence that pennies dropped from the empire state building will kill you. Doesn’t make it true. Also a 5g bullet travelling at 150 mp/h is no where near the same as a brick being dropped from 4 feet unless it is a very tiny brick.
