Lies, lies, lies, lies and more lies
Lies, lies, lies, lies and more lies.
There is no excuse for what the McCain campaign is doing. There is no way to balance it, or explain it other than as evidence of a severe character defect on the part of the candidate who allows deliberate lies, smears, distortions and a lynching-mentality mockery to be used.
There is a straight up argument to be had in this election: McCain has a vastly different view from Obama about foreign policy, taxation, health care, government action…you name it.
Apparently, though, McCain is pretty certain that he can’t win - either on the issues - or on his personal character and decision making.
So he has made a fateful decision: Knowing that he is incapable of winning on the merits in a civil campaign, McCain has decided to turn to the dark side, to win at all costs, even if that must be by deception and lies and setting into motion a 21st century equivalent to emasculation and a public lynching of Obama — McCain is allowing his surrogates to continue to do that.
By doing so, McCain has allied himself with those who smeared him, his wife, his daughter– in 2000. We’ll see if the public decides to acquiesce to McCain’s dumb-down sleaze in 2008.
I’m betting Americans are a lot smarter that than Schmidt and Rove give us credit for, and are certainly much wiser than we were in 2004.
