Look, I get that Georgia is important politically for a number of reasons. But 1) saying it’s the most unstable region currently is pretty damn obvious given that a war just broke out there a week ago, and 2) there are a number of regions with strategic interests in the world, and arguably many more important than this one. What about Pakistan, for instance? What about Zimbabwe? What about Lebanon, and Kashmir? All of these smaller countries and regions are part of larger political alignments with the more major players, but how many people are thinking about them? How many Diggers are passionately researching the history of some country or region that they’ve only ever heard of and never seen, like so many are doing for Georgia? Can we please stop being so reactionary? Knowing what has just happened across the world doesn’t count as being informed, but knowing what might happen next does.
