Lydecker,
–”These quests are futile quests, but people can do these AND seek understanding of God.”–
You can’t find understanding of God anywhere but Scripture. That’s the vehicle He chose. He set it up such that there is no other vehicle.
–”Christ confirmed Scripture is from God, at least according to Scripture.”–
Outside of Scripture, you have no other way to know anything about Christ. If you haven’t studied the issue in depth in Scripture, then you really aren’t informed enough to make a reasoned judgment about it.
–”Making a metaphor for the mistake you are making when you reject WHY the trend exists is logical.”–
–”Again, you point to the trend as a reason the trend will continue, and so far ignore the REASONS behind the trend.”–
The reason for the trend is because people are naturally hedonistic and naturally want to do whatever they wish without any restraints. The reason for the trend toward increasing sexual immorality is the same reason that a child disobeys his parents: He wants to do what he wants to do. He doesn’t want to follow their rules. To try to dress it up by saying society has *discovered* certain rules were never good and necessary is to rationalize the thing. Everyone finds excuses for bad behavior. This thing isn’t over. Time will tell the story.
–”Your morals come from your mind. Not from the Bible.”–
We have discussed this before. I was raised by people who do not believe the Bible; so, as I learned what the Bible teaches, I abandoned many of my former values in favor of biblical values. There is a spiritual process the Bible refers to as sanctification. All that means is that as we grow in our knowledge of God and His will through study of Scripture, we permit Him to correct our attitudes and bring our thinking closer to what He wants it to be. We will never be perfect; that’s why it’s a process.
–”All Christians societies across location and time have different moral codes too.”–
Biblical morals for Christians regarding sex consist of just one code: All sex outside of traditional marriage is strictly proscribed. That’s very simple, and those who call themselves Christian but who twist this code have no authority from God to do so.
–”We cannot say that in 20-30 years, that strict facts will not be strict facts.”– vs. ” So, all of your statements where you say *facts* should be read as theories.”
You are the one who brought up the subject of facts, not me. All I am saying is that the way psychologists/psychiatrists define psychological harm today can easily change tomorrow, depending on which way the wind blows. That is exactly what has happened regarding the perversion of homosexuality, so I have no reason to think it will not also happen with the perversion of pedophilia. The society will continue further into debauchery, which will affect the thinking of everyone who goes along with it. It will prepare their minds to accept further debauchery.
–”You fear science. You don’t trust it.”–
I have no fear of science, but I do mistrust a lot of people who claim to be practicing science in certain fields. Science is one thing. The people involved in it are quite another. As to trusting science, again I would trust science when it is an unbiased search for truth and not subject to the bias of subjective interpretation of data. A lot of what is passing for *science* is garbage, especially when it comes to issues in psychiatry.
Again, science is something apart from the people participating in it. Science is the discovery of everything God has created. But the people involved are members of the fallen human race, prone to error, stupidity, bias, and dishonesty. Your problem is you don’t know the difference between science and *scientists.* Your faith in scientists is misplaced and naive.
–”You know sex with children is harmful, not because some book told you it, but because of science. “–
People in the western world have believed that pedophilia is wrong because of the Bible, not science. Western culture has been influenced by the precepts of Christianity for almost 2000 years. Pagan cultures had temple prostitutes, homosexuality, and pederasty as part of their lives. Obviously they had nothing to tell them they ought not do that. Our culture is devolving toward a model that more closely resembles that. I have no logical reason to think it won’t end up that way. History repeats itself. By the way, how exactly do you explain the preoccupation with finding a biological cause for homosexuality on the one hand and the common ancient practice of pederasty on the other? Obviously, they thought this was something for ALL men, not just those with homosexual tendencies. They thought ALL MEN had that tendency.
–”It won’t happen.”–
That was said about homosexuality too.
