Maybe Somalia should be run by Islamists. Saudi Arabia has Shaira law. So long as they don’t train terrorists to attack us here in the west, or officially supply Al Queda (like Saudi Arabia), let the Islamists have Somalia. Sure it would be bad for women and justice would be harsh and probably not that careful or fair, but it would be better than living under warlords without order. If they can stop piracy, more power to them. The fact is if any system can bring a country out of chaos, it is better than living in chaos. Complain all you want about dictators like Sadaam or Tito, but their order was preferable to the disorder that followed. It is up to the Somali’s to live with Shaira, not us. Currently they are cut along clan lines as is much of Africa. The choice, in this instance, is either unite under Islam or divide themselves into clan based countries (with all the ethnic cleansing that involves). I don’t think a Muslim fundamentalist country will do very well over time but it gives them a start to make something better.
