mrraven: that’s completely idiotic and backward. The Constitution is prescriptive. It outlines very clearly the basic rights of the citizens along with the basic duties of the federal government, its relation to state governments, and the process of electing & appointed officials.
The Bill of Rights is entirely prescriptive. It guarantees very specific things, and valid laws cannot be made which infringe those rights. The Federal government has no power outside its specifically designated duties. Anything outside that is unconstitutional. This includes many institutions we have today.
I don’t know what makes you think that innovation would stop if we stuck to the constitution (writing with quills…wtf?), I’ll just assume that’s a strawman.
If you don’t understand the 3rd amendment, or why its there, and consider it antiquated, you have missed the idea of the Constitution completely. Federal power is to be as restricted as possible, as it is the least representative and the one with the most potential for abuse.
I don’t know what civics class you were in, but apparently you were sleeping.
