“My fan pick for a top Star Wars Hero would be Corran Horn. Corran is deserving on so many levels. A fan favorite of the Expanded Universe, Corran has been a hero in multiple circles.

He began his career following in his father and adopted grandfather’s footsteps by joining the Corellian Security Force where he ran down such notorious criminals as Zekka Thyne of Black Sun and the Trandoshan bounty hunter Bossk.

Later in life, Corran joined the most decorated fighter squadron in the Republic when he was made a part of the newly reformed Rogue Squadron. As the leader of three flight, Horn was instrumental in several campaigns including the recapturing Coruscant, the battles with Warlord Zsinj, and the series of battles against Grand Admiral Thrawn. Horn also briefly resigned his position, along with the rest of Rogue Squadron, to fight in the Bacta War.

While a member of Rogue Squadron, Horn was captured by Ysanne Isard and sent to her Lusankya prison. Horn had the distinction of being the only individual to directly escape the infamous prison.

After the Thrawn campaign, Corran was forced to take up his Jedi legacy. The grandson of Nejaa Halcyon, a contemporary of Obi-wan Kenobi, Corran was a force sensitive and was trained as a part of the inaugural class at the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin IV.

Corran continued his career as a fighter pilot and as a Jedi. He fought as a Jedi in the Yuuzhan Vong War and after its conclusion was awarded the rank of Master. He became a leading member of the Jedi Council and was a major player in the Swarm War as well as the Second Galactic Civil War.

Strictly on the level of storytelling and character, I love that Corran is a Jedi that has limits. It’s easy for an author to turn Jedi into unstoppable forces of nature with unimaginable power. Corran has the challenge of being a descendant of the Halcyon line which is revealed to be notoriously poor at telekinesis. Corran can’t whip his lightsaber into his hand from across the room. He can’t leap tall wampas in a single bound. Corran instead has some more rare and challenging gifts to utilize.

Corran can absorb incredible amounts of energy. This a rare ability demonstrated by Darth Vader on Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back. Corran’s other rather unique talent comes to projecting Force visions.

Corran also has the distinction of being the only character to narrate a book entirely in first person. (”I, Jedi”) Not even Luke has been given this literary privilege.

Few individuals in the Star Wars universe have been a hero on so many levels. From cop, to pilot, to military leader, to Jedi, Corran Horn is the definitive Star Wars hero.”

Spoken like a true virgin.
