No, I’m not joking, for 3 reasons

1) Whether or not I use credit cards isn’t really going to affect the price. Yeah, I know you can say “if everyone would stop, it would lower costs”, but be realistic. Everyone is not going to stop. Most people are too irresponsible to be able to manage their money without them, unfortunately.

2) Actually, the rewards from credit cards typically come much less from the fees charge to the stores, and more from the customers paying high interest rates, late fees, over limit fees, etc. The fees charged to the store mostly go to the various processing centers and visa/mastercard itself, rather than the individual issuing banks (who are the ones that pay out the rewards). The banks make their money from fees and interest charged to the customer, not merchant fees.

3) Credit cards actually have a benefit to many businesses, especially businesses that deal with higher cost merchandise.
