No, not exactly. You don’t sell it to them because the shortage creates a hype around the system — If it’s sold out, it must be amazing, right? The best! So everyone talks about how it’s sold out, and it spreads, and then suddenly everyone is anxious about getting the system. So when the next shipment comes — A proper shipment, it sells out for “real” due to people getting excited over the product.

Shortages now boost sales later, people aren’t going to switch to a console that is readily available. Obviously, if it’s available and not sold out (”Oh, people aren’t buying it…”) Then it must suck, right? At least in a consumer’s view.
