Oh yeah, instead of making adults be more individually responsible for drinking at 18 colleges should just tell them that “Hey kids, drinking isn’t cool!” That sorta logic works great as we can tell from abstinence programs. An 18 year old is going to drink. Maybe if the penalty for drunk driving (which seems to be the only issue with underage drinking to the nay-sayers) should go through the roof. Driving drunk is dangerous and stupid, drinking isn’t.
I had a personal friend who got a D.U.I for being a total DUMASS. What is his penalty? A night in custody and some fines. That really isn’t enough to deter most. If they would revoke your license for ten years and put you in jail for a month I bet nobody would drive drunk and I would be perfectly okay with that. Also if 18 year olds seem to be the biggest concern for drunk driving it is probably because they don’t want anyone to know they have been drinking. Our country has a moral dilemma left over from the turn of the century that needs to change. We need to stop treating the government as a baby sitter and take some matters into our own hands.
