People shouldn’t be angry with Rogers. The only reason their prices are outrageous is because the idiots walking the streets are willing to pay. If you had a product that everyone was willing to pay 20$ for, you wouldn’t sell it for 10$. If people want lower prices and better contract terms, they need to stop purchasing Rogers’ products. If there’s no demand then prices go down.

The played the public like a violin with the iPhone. They got so much bad press for their ridiculous price plans so what did they do? Well, essentially nothing. They ran a special for 3 months after launch for unlimited data for the length of the contract and people ate it up like it was ice cream. They didn’t lower prices, they didn’t reduce contract length or promised better terms, didn’t raise minutes, they didn’t do shit and they got people to buy into it. Cause, ya know, fuck anyone who happens to wanna buy it after the special is over. People are selfish assholes and Rogers know it. They completely used the public’s selfish nature and turned them on one another to break the public’s solidarity on the issue. It was a fucking brilliant move. They got people to think that ‘..well, they’re not gonna lower prices. I might as well get in on this special before it’s over or I’ll be fucked’. I still remember the digg story about the announcement of the 3 month unlimited data special. About 70% of the comments claimed some sort of victory. Go back and read it, it’s fucking sad.

This is no different than that. As long as enough people are willing to pay these prices, they’re not going down. If you wanna take your frustrations out on anyone, take them out on your friends and co-workers who run out and buy these products like lemmings so they can walk around all cool and show them off to their friends and family. They’re the problem, not Rogers.
