“Pro Gaming” is quite possible one of the worst career choices you can make. The BEST pro gamers who have been at it for a while do make good money provided they win tournaments. The best sponsorships pay very very low salaries of like $1000 a month and pay for travel and living expenses. Most of them just pay for travel expenses.

A “Pro Gamers” income is almost 100% reliant on how well they do at tournaments but recently CGS has started to give players decent base salaries. These players are usually multi talented cyberathletes who specialize in either RTS or FPS games and have been playing for years honing their aim and micro skills. There are dozens of US Pro Gamers making upwards of 70k and the best can pull down 6 figs while most can barely support themselves.

If you want to watch a good documentary on pro gaming, shaguar(a popular CS player) dad who is a filmmaker made one after he dropped out of HS for a brief period to concentrate on playing counterstrike. Search “First Person Shooter” on google video.
