pw378:
Let us assume there is your “horrible suffering” of separation, for sake of your argument. Let us assume that god created everything.
Under those assumptions, the “freedom to choose” argument is a joke. Why? Because choice #1 - force yourself to have a cult-like love for the creator of horror, beyond any love you can possibly have for anything else, OR choice #2 suffer the horror that the creator created.
In other words - you have to pick horror, or the thing that created the horror.
This is no different than a man who points a gun at your head - he says “You have complete freedom to choose, AS LONG as it is the bullet in your head, or a life constrained to loving me.” Is that really a choice?
In fact there is only one reasonable choice - love cannot be demanded, love cannot be forced from someone. That means that the ETHICAL person must choose NOT to love the diety that created the ultimatum. It is UNETHICAL to give into the man holding the gun to your head - he doesn’t deserve your love because he is holding the gun, and the right thing to do is deny the blackmailer.
There is no “good” option here. You say hell isn’t punishment, but then you say it is horrible suffering. They are one in the same - suffering is punishment. A loving creator would save EVERYONE from suffering, even those who don’t choose to condone the blackmail.
