Rich people depend on the Government less than lower / middle class people, so it’s commonplace for them to want lower taxes and less Government intervention. That doesn’t mean they don’t want to help out the poor, it just means they don’t want to have the Government do it in a sloppy way for them.

My family [through my Dad] is in an upper class tax bracket, and he’s a Republican. He still supports non-profit groups like Habitat for Humanity and Accion International, both of which do a lot more good than the Government per every dollar spent.

I hate how people “blame the rich” for problems. There are definitely a number of greedy people in the world, but to say that “the rich” are the problem is throwing the baby with the bathwater. It’s like saying that “the lower class are just lazy” because you know of someone who is lazy and by coincidence lower class.

Capitalism is based on the ideal that even if the top 5% of the country control 90% of the wealth, they also pay 90% of the taxes, and that is true today. To say “it doesn’t really feel like you are making sacrifices” is stupid; the sacrifices are the taxes paid. Not as big of a sacrifice as losing a job or a house; but a sacrifice none the less.
