@RobotBuddha: That’s precisely why the Bible is a poor guide for living. There are still some applicable bits, but most of it is inconsistent and completely out of context in the modern world.
It’s true, you don’t hear many people saying, “screw Paul, we’re with Jesus,” but pretty frequently you see people ignoring Leviticus and embracing 1st Corinthians, unless of course that verse in Leviticus refers to homosexuality.
They say, “Jesus fulfilled the old covenant!” (subtext: the old testament doesn’t apply any more) but they ignore “Judge lest ye be judged”(Matt, 7:1).
All that being said, the whole “Golden Rule” thing is still pretty awesome. How often is that ignored by Christians after church on Sunday when they are tipping their waiter? From personal experience, I can tell you: pretty fucking often.
