Sara,
I agree with most things that you are saying but I always worry when the problem is complex and the solution is a single, fits all one. I think that complex problems require multiple approaches and while I agree that exponential growth as underpinning the current corporate/capitalist model is nonsensical at the surface the forces it harnesses underneath are very powerful and that is why it is successful. If we are to fight the problems that we face then we need to harness all the resources that we have. I fear that the sort of transformation you are talking about for 7 billion people will take far too long and we are likely to plunge into chaos well before it is achieved. I believe that the corporate model is a fantastic one for allocating resources and energy to a problem, it is just addressing the wrong problem. The corporate model only exists within the framework we set as humans and countries and therefore we also need to look at changing the framework so the corporate model can address the right problems. I believe that a combination of that model and the transformation you seek is a better overall approach. In the work we do we often think about the difference between creating the tools and abilities for people to see the future more clearly and evangelising a preferred future because the tools can be used to make any future. I generally come down on the side of giving people the tools and getting them to see clearly what they need to do.
