The bigshot websites use it because their executives were eager to be “partnered” with Google. Take a look a look at the big sites and you will notice the Adsense results are usually hidden away below the fold. People are eager to be associated with Google because it is a media darling these days. They jumped at the opportunity but once they saw the money they were using the ads were buried low on the page. The only reason they are not removed completely is that no one wants to anger the Google giant.
