This was a poorly written article, and I’m quite sure this exact story (written much better though) has already been on digg multiple times.
That being said though, to me at least, it seems like China definitely doctored the ages of some of their competitors - specifically in gymnastics
Obviously you can’t just look at someone and say oh they look too young so they certainly are. If you couple that with articles that actually state varying ages for these people multiple times though it muddies the water a bit more.
It’s not hard to believe at all that the Chinese government would meddle with things. Remember, this is their “coming out party.” They want to be perfect, especially with the much anticipated and popular gymnastics. Their passports show an age old enough to compete…and? I doubt it would be very difficult for the Chinese gov’t to get these created for their competitors.
This is the same government that had a competition for finding a child to sing and then picked another girl who was more visually appealing and dubbed her voice with the actual winner. It’s not about going out and trying to villainize China, they do it to themselves in a lot of instances lol
