We have a friend who has just started substituting in our local district in the high schools. When Gene said this, my immediate response was “I’ll pray for you”. I asked him a few days ago how it was going. With his typical forthrightness, he said it was just “glorified, expensive babysitting”.
I am also including a remark I made in response to michael4lsu earlier in the thread.
The issue here is not education, the issue here is control. A homeschooled student costs the State nothing because all the expense is handled by the parents. You would think that the taxpayers of California would rise up and endorse homeschooling with open arms because ultimately, it would reduce the amount of the school budgets and actually free up more resources for the local districts since they aren’t providing services to as many students. Case in point… in our municipality, it was pointed out Wednesday night that our city of 82,000+ actually acquired nineteen (19) additional employees following a hiring freeze last year, most of those were in the Public Works Department. HOWEVER, the BOE added ninety two (92) new employees. Approximately 56% of our entire City budget goes to the BOE, and they are asking for a 4.9% increase. Can we all say BLOATED????
