To be more precise, both Pau Gasol and the Spanish Basketball coach apologized already and explained that they meant it as a gesture of complicity with the Chinese people.

You bet, the Brits in particular are dieing of envy with the Spanish good results all over the sports that matter to Europeans. Spain is the present Football Eurocup Champion - while they did not even qualify. Spain has a recent 2 times F1 champion - while they’ve been waiting to have one for decades now. Spain is the present basketball world champ. Finally, Spain also has the number 1 tennis player that recently won both the French and British grand slams.
As for the Americans. I live in the US, and political correctness has corroded most people here. In general they could not distinguish a small non-racial gesture like that - even if I try to explain it. For Spanish people that gesture did not have ANY racial implications and it is/was meant as a gesture of sympathy.
Enough is enough!
