“Whether you like it or not, marijuana is illegal, it needs to remain illegal, and it can wreck people’s lives. Nothing good has become of its use. There is no reason to make it legal. So the burden of proof shifts to those trying to legalize it.” — Responsible use of drugs does not do anyone any damage. I don’t know how else to put this, to be frank. Cannabis doesn’t ruin anyone’s life if that person has their act together. My guess if you’re basing your image of pot-heads purely off stereotypes, and that bothers me to no end - look at Sodade’s posts. He isn’t some freak of nature, standing alone - most people who do pot do it responsible and purely recreation - as do most people I know. The few true “pot-heads” I know are lazy bastards who are lazy regardless of their mental state.

Plenty of good can come of it. Peoples’ quality of life can be increased dramatically, with little to no effects on their general health - I don’t see anything wrong with this. Once again, Sodade isn’t alone in this sense.

There’s no reason why it should be illegal. It’s a case of a person doing something to their own body, in the privacy of their own home, in order to be happier. In the end of all of this, what we have here is a case where a group of people doesn’t approve of what another group of people are doing for whatever reason, and they’re going against the founding principles of liberty in order to enforce their will by means of legislation. It’s despicable, and it’s invasive.

And as for your point on crime… one word… Prohibition. All the substance one needs to see that that claim is true can be found on Wikipedia. After the amendment was repealed, there was no need for gangsters and illegal operations, and the legal market established itself. Non-consumption alcohol-related crime decreased practically, as would happen with cannabis.

I’m not ignoring anything. It is in fact people who, like you, are ignoring a little thing called “personal liberty”, and another called “history”. I’ve been on both sides of the drug debate, and quickly realized that if you believe in personal freedom, like any reasonable person, then you have no choice but to be on the pro side.

A lot of *irresponsible* people kill themselves with alcohol, by means of driving, overdose, etc. Less do so with pot (except for overdose, which is practically impossible). Is that really why they should be illegal? By that reasoning, so should driving, among any number of cases where someone can kill themselves if they’re irresponsible. That doesn’t mean these things should be illegal. It just means some people are stupid.
