Yeah, I got hosed by this one. I wouldn’t call it “crippled” though. I had no downtime. It was only an issue if you powered off a virtual machine. It wouldn’t turn back on unless you changed the system date. The solution? Don’t power off machines until the patch came out.
The patch required you to move virtual machines from one host to another to apply the fix. I juggled 300 VMs’ around 10 hosts applying the fix with ZERO DOWNTIME. If I were using Microsoft’s Virtualization technology, I’d still be having meetings to discuss when we could schedule the taking down of 300 servers.
